Former 400m men’s World and Olympic holder and legend, Michael Johnson today visited the 24 year old South African phenomenon, Wayde van Niekert who smashed his 17 year old record last night.
Wayde yesterday ran 43.03 sec to break the previous World and Olympic record of 43.18 sec by Michael Johnson in 1999.
Although Wayde was considered an underdog before the 2016 Olympics, his determination ensured his name is entered in the record books.
Michael Johnson visit was to personally congratulate the 24 year old for what he has accomplished. “It was an absolute masterpiece which I never expected from him, he is a hero” Johnson said.
Wayde has promised to maintain his focus and also do his best to improve on his current form.
